Roodepoort

Johannesburg – Main Reef Road in Roodepoort was closed off to traffic on Thursday morning due to a protest in the area on Wednesday night, metro police said.

The road was closed off between Wilgespruit Street and Corlett Avenue because of rocks and tyres placed on the road by protesters, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“Therefore the road is not safe for motorists this morning. Motorists can use Ontdekkers Road as an alternative route this morning [Thursday] while clean up operations are being done.”

Pasop vir `n tweede Bophuthatswana, veral in hierdie tye?

“We are calling for mining change in South Africa. We want the mines nationalised,” het Malema vir radio 702 gesê. Job recession

THE unintended consequences of South Africa’s inflexible labour law environment are beginning to pile up and create a serious risk of a “job recession”, says the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The evidence can be found in the latest Adcorp employment index which shows that employment in the formal sector has declined for the sixth consecutive month. Michael Bagraim, President of the Chamber, said the worst job losses were in the mining, manufacturing and construction sector where employment should actually be increasing to meet the demands of the infrastructure development programme. Weermag betrek!

SOUTH African military bases have been placed on high alert – for the first time since democracy – ahead of Julius Malema’s planned meeting with soldiers today. Continue reading
